This is a detailed review, so if you can’t be bothered to read it all, the bottom line is Plumbing Buddies earned a 6 on a scale of 1 to 5 on this project.
One morning, weeks earlier, we turned the shower on, but the water never got even warm. Checked the 14-year-old 75-gal water heater. No flame. Carefully followed instructions to relight pilot light. Large yellow flames! Googled it. Concerned it could have started a house fire, turned it off immediately. Called our neighbor (our Guardian Angel!) for a plumber reference. He told us, like husband, AND like our neighbor, this guy is also a military veteran, so we made an appointment.
When this house was built in 1986, there was a 75-gal glass tank gas water heater, with a separate built-in recirculating system and a Kenmore pellets-water-softener.
Jeremy arrived for the appointment. We explained we wanted a tankless demand recirculating water heater. He considered all the equipment available on the market and suggested this Noritz NRCR111DV system, the most highly developed system available, with all the digital bells and whistles, for this size house.
But the catch was the salt-based water softener would decay the sensitive Noritz. He suggested the Halo 'H2 Zero' system (clever name!), which once installed, requires no further consideration whatsoever—no maintenance, no salt, or no additives. It just sits there and does its job.
So Plumbing Buddies installed this Noritz & Halo system for this hot water.
There WERE problems. NOT the installation, NOT the personnel, NOT the equipment. The problems were caused by thirty-nine years of salt collecting in the pipes throughout the house. Plumbing Buddies returned the very next day to solve them. He was on the phone with the manufacturer (in nearby Orange County!) several times, to iron out the solution, until the problem was overcome.
Now there is HOT water at OUR convenience. Being energy-conscious, there is no need for hot water when we’re asleep or on vacation. The internal timer on the Noritz is set to comply with OUR schedules. If it’s necessary to adjust that schedule, even a temporary one, it is easily accomplished via Bluetooth on our cell phones.
Plumbing Buddies gets an A+ for solving this problem, and we’ll call them the next time we suffer old age problems (house plumbing ones!).
